PREAMBLE

The Platte County Democratic Party seeks to ensure that every citizen of this great country and state enjoys the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

FAIRNESS AND EQUALITY

We embrace the charge of our state and national constitutions that all humans are equal.

  1. We support equality and civil liberties regardless of age, race, country of origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation and identity, and cognitive or physical ability.
  2. We support marriage equality.
  3. We support efforts to close the wage gap between women and men.
  4. We support the right of everyone to choose how and whether they worship.
  5. We support the reproductive rights of women.
  6. We support the adoption of non-discrimination laws.
  7. We support the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.
GOOD GOVERNMENT PRACTICES

Our government works best when it is transparent, accessible, and public.

  1. We support open meeting laws for all elected bodies.
  2. We support accountability measures that require full financial disclosure and identify and prevent any conflict of interest before any candidate takes office in all state and federal offices.
  3. We support the use of scientific research and data that is used to make informed decisions when deciding legislation, and in providing guidance in state and federal departments.
  4. We support the abolition of for-profit prisons, deportation, and detention centers.
  5. We support legislation to adequately fund public services such as Social Security, Postal Service, Veteran’s Administration, and programs such as Medicare and USAID.
  6. We oppose privatization of any government system, department or program.
  7. We support common sense gun laws, such as Red Flag laws, background
    checks and gun free zones.
  8. We support information and creativity found in books and oppose any banning of books found in our schools and public libraries.
  9. We support legislation and enforcement to release all Epstein files.
Voting and elections

Our democracy requires fair and open elections. Unaccounted and dark money
damage the integrity of electoral politics.

  1. We support secure absentee, mail-in, and early voting.
  2. We support same day voter registration.
  3. We support the voting rights of all citizens, and for the removal of barriers that discourage voting.
  4. We support the establishment of a non-partisan commission to determine
    legislative district boundaries.
  5. We support a path for previously convicted felon citizens to restore their voting rights.
  6. We support legislation to nullify Citizens United and the abolishment of “Super PACs”.
  7. We support reducing limits to contributions to candidates and to PACs by
    individuals, businesses, and corporations.
  8. We support open primaries and ranked choice voting.
  9. We support a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College, and
    propose Wyoming join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
  10. We support the reliability of machine ballot counting.
Healthcare

It is an inalienable right for everyone to receive quality and affordable healthcare,
including mental health services.

  1. We support the expansion of Medicaid in Wyoming.
  2. We support increased funding for public health, community mental health
    centers, counseling services and care for veterans and their families.
  3. We support the right of reproductive choice.
  4. We support funding to treat and alleviate drug and alcohol dependency and
    addiction.
  5. We support the legalization of medical marijuana.
  6. We support negotiation with pharmaceutical companies regarding prescription drug pricing.
  7. We support increasing state funded efforts for suicide prevention in Wyoming.
Education

Platte County Democrats support government investment in public education and agree Wyoming constitutional mandate that higher education should be “as nearly free” as possible.

  1. We support public funding for public education from pre-school to post-secondary and adult education.
  2. We support equal access to education.
  3. We support institutions that provide training in technical and trade programs.
  4. We support the right of public educators to negotiate collectively.
  5. We believe in public educators to actively participate in the certification process to ensure the maintenance of quality standards in public schools.
  6. We support the inclusion of Humanities, Creative Arts, Social, Natural and
    Environmental Sciences at all public schools.
  7. We require the separation of church and state within our public school system and state funded universities.
Economy

To achieve prosperity and reduce instability, our state and our counties need tax reform and economic diversification.

  1. We support economic diversification and state level tax reforms to grow state revenues.
  2. We support equitable and proportional taxation including corporate and
    investment taxation.
  3. We support electric vehicle infrastructure in Wyoming.
  4. We support the right of workers to organize and collectively bargain for wages, benefits, and a safe work environment.
  5. We support the repeal of anti-labor laws and policies.
  6. We support equal pay for equal work.
  7. We support a livable wage for all workers.
  8. We support rare earth mining expansion in Wyoming.
  9. We support the use of renewables as part of a diverse energy economy.
  10. We support any legislation to ensure the effective income tax or wealth tax rate for high earners and high wealth individuals is the same or greater than the median effective tax rate.
Public Lands

Wyoming offers incredible access to unique public lands and spaces.

  1. We support federal and state stewardship and ownership of public lands for the benefit of all Americans and our visitors.
  2. We believe wilderness areas should be identified and preserved.
  3. We respect the ancestral and contemporary stewardship of Wyoming lands by indigenous peoples and pledge to work alongside them to continue that effort.
Conservation

The conservation of Wyoming’s landscapes, animal, and plant life should be prioritized by local, state, and federal governments.

  1. We believe that any development should proceed responsibly with regard for our wildlife, their natural migration routes, and their critical habitat.
  2. We support enforcement of land, air, and water quality regulation and adequate funding for the DEQ.
  3. We acknowledge that climate change impacts the environment and support
    efforts to prepare for its effects.
Native Americans

We respect the sovereignty of Native American governments.

  1. We support improved cooperation among federal, state, and tribal officials.
International Affairs

Americans should treat other nations and peoples with dignity and respect. Diplomacy should be used before armed conflict.

  1. We support a foreign policy that reflects and promotes the principles of freedom, human rights, compassion, and economic stability of citizens of the world without the use of military force.
  2. We support efforts towards mutual arms reduction, treaties to ban landmines, nuclear weapons, chemical warfare, and accept the international definition of war crimes.
  3. We support restoring the constitutional authority of Congress alone, to use
    military force in any foreign country or against its own citizens.
Immigration

We support responsible immigration, keeping immigrant families together, and an
attainable and timely path to citizenship.

  1. We support comprehensive immigration reform including an attainable and
    speedy path to citizenship.
  2. We support the abolishment of private prisons and the ICE detention and
    deportation centers.
  3. We support reasonable border control laws and recognize the need to control our borders.
